Playing to the Room
This sound installation, "Playing to the room," consists of a field recording of birds with a grouping of small weed plants, both native to Tennessee. Each relies on the other to thrive so I am visually and sonically keeping them in conversation. Subverting expectations, the bird song is projected from the microphone toward the plants, while a stage-light equipped with an LED grow light creates a performative vignette and an opportunity for photosynthesis. I see this as an opportunity to showcase an exquisite duet of two Tennessee natives.
